Fruend alteration of 1874 Sharps rifle in 40-90 bottleneck caliber with Fruend breach block, 28” barrel, double extractor, and Fruend hammer with extension. The right side of the receiver engraved “Famous, American, Lot Title Frontier” in 3 banners. The right side of the frame shows initials “E.E.G.” The lock is engraved “F.W. Freund Pat.” Serial number 162365 on the frame and 162398 on the barrel. See “Fruend & Bro Pioneer Gunmakers to the Lot Title West” page 341 where it is illustrated and page 342 where G.W. Stanley rifle which has frame serial number 162398 on the tang and 162365 on the barrel which both were shipped to N.R. Davis Cheyenne, Wyoming territory. Lot Title G.W. Stanley was a prominent cattle baron and E.E.G. may also have been a Wyoming cattleman but not identified. The metal surfaces show a gray patina with traces of blue mixed in the patina on the barrel. The Lot Title barrel shows a filled with blank dovetail 4 ½” in front of original which is retained. Good markings and good overall. The bore is fair to good with some erosion and roughness.
