Pair of James Purdey exposed hammer 12GA shotgun in original leather over oak case with Purdey label in lid, S/N 10528 & 10529. Originally made in 1879 and English re-barreled in 1971 showing British nitroproofs and 2 ½” chamber marking. Gun #1 is choked improved cylinder in both barrels. Elaborately chiseled in high relief on fences showing leaf design. Very tight scroll and floral engraving. The barrels measure 30”with straight stock. The stock measures 14 3/8” to the end of thick butt plate. The barrels are excellent. The frame is bright metal and good with some wear and minor erosion with slight pitting that has beencleaned. The stocks are very good plus as refinished. Gun #2 is well matched to #1 in length, choke and configuration. In similar condition. The case is good to very good with minor repairs. The name “F. Gilliat” isembossed in the lid. Case pairs of Purdeys are rare and generally prohibitive in cost. Ready to shoot. (Antique) Est.: $14,000-$28,000
